Houses of Parliament
This gothic collection of buildings, originally the Palace of Westminster has housed both Houses of Parliament since 1512. The oldest portion of the building, Westminster Hall, dates from 1097.
It must be confessed that the author has been pulling out his hair while attempting to remember the name of the infamous clock tower. The tower is most definitely not:
- Big Ben
- This is the name that has been affectionately given to the bell in the tower.
- St. Stephen's
- So sorry, but this is the name of the middle tower within the Palace of Westminster, not the tower containing the infamous bell.
- Clock Tower
- Surely I'm not barking mad for realizing this is a description and not a proper name.
The only reason for this drivel is that yours truly has heard the correct name at one time or another, and is beating himself mercilessly for having so carelessly neglected to write it down. The name sounds a wee bit like, "caerlemagne" or possibly "charlemagne" Tower, but I'm also quite certain neither of these is exactly correct. If any readers can assist, a note to the author would be much appreciated.
