Abutment

One Rail Miscellaneous Quinapoxet ROW
Abutment of crossing above the Agricultural Branch

This is the western abutment of what was the bridge carrying the Massachusetts Central over the Aggricultural Branch Railroad immediately east of Jeffersons station.

When the Massachusetts Central opened for business in October 1881, it ran from Boston to Hudson. It was intended to extend the line to its chartered terminus in Northampton, but construction funding ran dry. The line was opened in 1882 as far west as the work had been completed, in this case, here at Jeffersons.
