We are just north of what was Quinapoxet Station in Holden, looking northward along the Massachusetts Central right-of-way towards the original western terminus at Jeffersons. The fill upon which the author is standing is even higher immediately ahead, with water far below on either side.
Fortunately, the rails-to-trails scourge has not yet found an excuse to convert this path through nature into yet another one of their tarmac-polluted thoroughfares.
