Westminster Abbey

Churches Canterbury Cathedral

This is the "Collegiate Church of Saint Peter, Westminster", better known simply as, "Westminster Abbey". It is the private church of the reigning King or Queen who maintains direct control; as such, it is accorded the distinction of "Royal Peculiar". When not in use by the Royal Family, the abbey is open to the public for religious services and general visitation.

Irrespective of its royal connection, I fell in love with the architecture and general ambiance of Westminster Abbey, and made a point of attending services here on the few Sunday's I was scheduled to be in London. I brought with me from the States a rather pricey pair of shoes of sufficient discomfort as to send me walking London's streets bare footed; but for services at the abbey, they served their purpose admirably. In contrast, during services, there were a seemingly endless onslaught of random gawkers adorned in the most disrespectful assemblage of mediocre dress.
