Scots and Poles
I had never realized, prior to my visit here, that Scotland and Poland had been allies during World War II. Not just allies, they shared a unique bond as well.
It seems that when Germany invaded Poland, the entire remains of the Polish army fled to Scotland. There, with no native homeland to defend, the Polish troops defended Scotland against potential invasion while the Scottish troops were fighting in Europe. This made for an extended cross-cultural exchange. The book here is part of that history.
